Conquer Kids Cancer, how did I come up with this idea?
I have always had a love and passion for kids and I have known for along time that I want to be a Dr. bringing babies into this world. My mom knowing this and being a former Miss Utah America , brought up the idea of doing a pageant to win scholarship money for my education. The Miss Utah’s Outstanding Teen pageant was a program that offered this and I decided I would someday compete. This pageant is not just a beauty pageant. It’s a program that teaches young women to go for their dreams through scholastic achievement, performance and service with a platform. Last year I knew, even though I wasn’t competing, that childhood cancer was the platform I wanted to speak out on. But my true inspiration came when I met a 5 year old named Cami Carver, who was recently diagnosed with leukemia. Meeting Cami made me feel so emotional. I felt feelings of sadness, hope, gratitude and love. It was hard to hold back my tears. She’s so innocent. She feels the pain, the loss of her hair, the changed lifestyle but she still smiles. When I went to meet with her, she told her mom a princess was coming and she needed to dress up in her princess clothes. I gave her a tiara because she is a princess to me. I knew after I spent time with her that this platform was truly a gift and it would teach me to be a better person. I want to make a difference! I want to help “Conquer Kids Cancer,” the #1 disease killer of kids. Kids are the future……My hope with this blog is to bring more awareness to this devastating problem and promote the Miss Utah's Outstanding Tean program which helps young women develop into a woman with purpose.
Enjoying the summer
